Project Engagement Process

Applied Research & Community Engagement

The Healy Center at Colorado State University Pueblo actively engages students and faculty in applied research projects that foster sustainable economic development across southeastern Colorado. The Center is committed to educational outreach that supports local business needs while providing students with hands-on, real-world learning experiences.

Assignment of student and faculty members to specific projects is based on skill alignment and availability. Students participating in upper-division management and business courses are trained to develop comprehensive project plans tailored to the needs of businesses and organizations. These plans are designed to drive strategic action, clarify both short- and long-term goals, enhance resource allocation, and identify key opportunities and challenges.

Project Engagement Process

Based on business needs, your designated faculty and student team will guide you through the following steps:

Initial Contact

Interested businesses and organizations must contact the Healy Center at least three weeks before the start of the academic term.

Project Scoping Meeting

You will meet with the Healy Center to define scope and needs. Afterward, a Request for Proposals (RFP) is drafted and provided to students.

Project Development

Students work through the semester and meet with your team three times for 50-minute sessions to share updates and gather information.

Final Presentation

Students present the completed project plan. These meetings are non-binding, and organizations may implement the plan at their discretion.

Depending on the specific needs of your organization, a designated point of contact will coordinate a project engagement meeting and outline timelines to guide the collaboration. Below is an example of a typical project meeting schedule.
