Living Learning Communities

Living Learning Communities offer an opportunity for students to find peers who share their same interests and academic pursuits but also take part in experiences relating to their majors and interests. From interaction with faculty to outdoor excursions and much more, build upon your on-campus experience by joining one of our seven different Living Learning Communities.

Joining is easy! Just select the Living Learning Community you are interested in on your housing application or call the Residence Life & Housing office at 719-549-2602 if you have already submitted your housing application.

First-Year/First-Generation in College

Embarking on the journey of higher education as a first-generation college student is a significant achievement. The First-Generation in College Living Learning Community is specifically for those who are the first in their families to pursue higher education.

   Student Learning Outcomes for This Course 

  • Students will be able to create and evaluate the effectiveness of personalized study strategies that create effective study techniques tailored to individual needs and preferences guided by frameworks used to categorize cognitive complexity (e.g., Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy and Webb’s Depth of Knowledge). 
  • Students will be able to build and maintain self-advocacy skills to ensure they can access learning materials, spaces, and feel a sense of belonging across campus. 
  • Students will be able to communicate effectively using verbal, written, and non-verbal skills in academic, professional, and casual settings. 
  • Given a foundation of financial literacy students will create a personal budget, apply for a scholarship, and evaluate the return on investment of their current career goals. 
  • Given physical and digital university resources, students will prepare a personalized educational experience plan incorporating academic, financial, and extracurricular aspects.
