Engineering News

In August 2017, Professor Bedoya attended the Material Handling Teachers Institute at Oregon State University in Corvallis, which included tours of local facilities and sessions on teaching material handling, facility design, logistics and supply chain operations.

In June 2017, Professors DePalma, Fraser, and Jaksic attended the annual meeting of the American Society for Engineering Education in Columbus, Ohio. Professor Jaksic presented a paper coauthored with graduate student Boyan Li, “Humans vs. Robots – Workout Challenge.” The paper received the best paper award from the Division of Experimentation and Laboratory Oriented Studies. Professor Fraser presented a paper, coauthored with Becky Medina of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Pueblo County, "Engagement in Practice: The Boys and Girls Clubs as Community Partner for Engineering." She also appeared on a panel on Evolving Industrial Engineering Curricula. Professor Jaksic also presented two other papers: Metal Cutting and Manufacturing Economics Project for Freshmen (by Huseyin Sarper, Nebojsa I. Jaksic, and Linda Vahala), and "Dancing Humanoid Robots Lab Demonstration for the First Year Engineering Students" (Nebojsa I. Jaksic, Boyan Li, Benjamin Maestas, and Katheryn Michelle Rothermal).

On May 4, 17 BSE and BSIE engineering seniors presented their senior projects:

  • Mechanical Mule, Lucas Mendicello, Anthony Olvera, Allan Quillen, Jonathan Widjaja

On May 4, 2017, CSU Pueblo initiated 16 students and Professor Bahaa Ansaf into the Order of the Engineer. 

In April 2017, engineering faculty participated in the first research conference sponsored by the CSU-Pueblo Institute of Cannabis Research. Professors Bedoya and Fraser gave a presentation on “Energy and Water Use in Cannabis Cultivation.” Professor Jaksic and Professor Mel Druelinger of the CSU-Pueblo Chemistry department gave a presentation on “Industrial Hemp Fibers as Reinforcing Agents in 3D-Printing Filament Composites.”

On April 28, 2017 Tochukwu Chikwendu, presented his thesis "Solar Energy in Pueblo: PV System Owners’ Perspective." The thesis was supported by a grant from the Pueblo County Commissioners.

The March 2017 issue of Railway Track & Structures includes an article “Performance of No. 20 frogs of various designs in revenue service,” by Rafael Jimenez, David Davis, Xinggao Shu, and Ivan Aragona of the Transportation Technology Center, Inc., (TTCI) in Pueblo. Xinggao Shu is an adjunct faculty member in the MS in Railroad Engineering program in the Department of Engineering. Ivan Aragona is a 2013 graduate of the Department with a BS in Industrial Engineering.
