The department's new MakerBot Replicator 2 was used to print a bolt and nut.

In spring 2013, Dr. Ding Yuan was promoted to Associate Professor and received tenure.

The CSU Pueblo student group Campus Crusade, advised by Professor DePalma, shared the award with Prizm for the 2012-2013 outstanding student organization.

    February

    On February 28, Dr. Paudel and engineering student Moriah Fillmore visited Roncalli Middle School and talked about Current Trends in the Field of Engineering and their Relevance to Society and shared their engineering experiences with 6th and 7th grade students as a part of Roncalli Science Career Expo.

    April

    The Department of Engineering hosted the Rocky Mountain Section meeting of the American Society for Education.

    May

    The Department hosted a Coffee Break for the Latino Chamber of Commerce.

    Professors Bedoya and Fraser attended the annual conference of the Institute of Industrial Engineers. Professor Bedoya gave a paper titled "Modeling Renewable Energy Resources and Effects on CO2 Emissions" (with graduate student Gulsevi Basar). Professor Fraser received the 2013 Wellington Award from the Engineering Economy Division "for outstanding contribution in the field of engineering economy." CSU-Pueblo MSISE graduates also attended the conference, including Emre Kirac (PhD student at the University of Arkansas), Furkan Oztanriseven (PhD student at the University of Arkansas), Gokce Palak (PhD 2013 Mississippi State), and Saltuk Selcuklu (PhD student at Rutgers).

    Fifteen engineering seniors presented their senior projects:

    • Automated Discharge Hopper, Zachary Goldsberry and Dain Schmidt
    • Tensile Testing, Zachary Brown and Brady Evans
    • Automotive Active Aero and Exhaust Package, Andrew Hawk
    • Autonomous Construction Robots for Dog Houses, Nicholas Sabye, Shane Swearingen, and Alexander Whitt

    June

    Five of the seven Engineering faculty members attended the annual conference of the American Society for Engineering Education June 23-26, presenting the following papers:

    • Fraser, Jane M, Leonardo Bedoya-Valencia, Jude L. DePalma, Nebojsa I Jaksic, Ananda Mani Paudel, Hüseyin Sarper, and Ding Yuan. Community Outreach and Engagement through Sustainability.
    • Gosavi, Abhijit, and Jane M Fraser. Problem-Based Learning and Industrial Engineering.
    • Jaksic, Nebojsa I. DaNI-K: A Vision-based Robot Control Experiment with a DaNI Robot and Kinect Sensor Bundle. Selected as the best conference paper in the Division of Experimentation and Laboratory-Oriented Studies. (Also, Professor Jaksic is a member of the Board of Directors of ASEE)
    • Paudel, Ananda Mani, and Jane M Fraser. Teaching Sustainability in an Engineering Graphics Class with Solid Modeling Tool.
    • Paudel, Ananda Mani, and Sylvester A. Kalevela. Fostering Diversity and Educational Learning among Minority Engineering Students through Group-Study: A Case Study.
    • Yuan, Ding. Teaching Engineering Design Concepts through a Multidisciplinary Control Project.

    August

    Professor Hüseyin Sarper of the Department of Engineering attended the Mars Society Convention in Boulder.

    Professor Leonardo Bedoya-Valencia of the Department of Engineering traveled in Chile on a research trip funded by the National Science Foundation. As part of a group of approximately 60 researchers, he attended lectures on simulation and optimization of supply chain systems and visited various industrial sites and universities.
