How to Get Started
Getting started with student employment at CSU Pueblo is easy! Follow these steps to apply, get hired, and begin earning while you learn.
1️⃣ Check Eligibility
All currently enrolled students may apply for on-campus employment. Some positions require Work-Study eligibility, determined through your FAFSA.
2️⃣ Search for Jobs
Visit the CSU Pueblo Student Employment Portal to browse current openings for both Work-Study and Hourly positions.

Complete the online job application for each position that interests you. You may need to upload a résumé or class schedule.
4️⃣ Complete Hiring Paperwork
Once selected, you’ll receive instructions for I-9 employment verification, payroll forms, and required training.
5️⃣ Begin Your Position
Congratulations! Meet with your supervisor to set a schedule and start your on-campus job. You must report hours weekly through the university timekeeping system.
Important Reminders
- Students may work up to 20 hours per week while classes are in session.
- Work-Study students must maintain satisfactory academic progress (SAP).
- Summer employment may require additional paperwork or eligibility review.
Types of Student Employment & Eligibility
CSU Pueblo offers several types of student employment programs funded by federal, state, or institutional sources. Each program has specific eligibility requirements and award limits.
Federal Work-Study (FWS)
Federally funded program providing part-time jobs for undergraduate and graduate students with financial need. Work hours and earnings are limited by the amount awarded through your financial-aid package.
- Complete the FAFSA.
- Eligibility determined by financial-aid office.
- Students typically work 10–15 hours per week.
Colorado Work-Study (CWS)
State-funded program for Colorado residents demonstrating financial need. Awards are applied similarly to Federal Work-Study but supported by the State of Colorado.
- FAFSA required to establish eligibility.
- Students must be Colorado residents.
- Offers both on- and off-campus employment options.
Hourly Employment (Non-Work-Study)
Funded directly by CSU Pueblo departments for students who are not eligible for Work-Study. Positions are open to all enrolled students, regardless of financial need.
- No FAFSA requirement.
- Hourly rate determined by hiring department.
- Maximum 20 hours per week during academic terms.
International Student Employment
F-1 visa holders may work on campus up to 20 hours per week during semesters and full-time during breaks, provided they maintain lawful status.
- No Work-Study or FAFSA eligibility required.
- Must maintain full-time enrollment.
- Off-campus employment requires prior authorization.
Eligibility Review
Students are encouraged to check their financial-aid award letter in the student portal or contact the Student Financial Services office to confirm Work-Study eligibility before applying.
Hiring Process & Employment Policies
Once you’ve been selected for a position, both you and your supervisor will need to complete the required paperwork and onboarding steps before you can begin working. The following policies apply to all student employees at CSU Pueblo.
Student Responsibilities
- Complete all I-9 employment verification and payroll forms before starting work.
- Attend required training or orientation sessions.
- Adhere to assigned work schedule and maintain professional conduct.
- Record time accurately in the TimeClock Plus system each week.
- Notify your supervisor if you plan to stop working or change departments.
Supervisor Responsibilities
- Verify student eligibility (Work-Study or Hourly) prior to hiring.
- Submit Student Employment Authorization Form (SEAF) through the university workflow.
- Ensure students do not exceed weekly hour limits.
- Approve submitted timesheets promptly each pay period.
- Provide safe, inclusive, and educational work environments.
General Employment Guidelines
- Students may work up to 20 hours per week while classes are in session.
- During academic breaks, students may work up to 40 hours per week with supervisor approval.
- Students must remain enrolled in at least 6 credit hours (undergraduate) or 3 credit hours (graduate).
- Employment is contingent upon satisfactory academic progress (SAP).
- Student positions are considered temporary, at-will employment.
Payroll & Timesheet Information
Student employees are paid bi-weekly via direct deposit. Timesheets must be submitted and approved before the campus payroll deadline to avoid delays in payment.

- Late timesheets may be processed in the next pay period.
- Questions about paychecks or deposits should be directed to the Payroll Office.
Policies & Procedures for Supervisors of Student Employees
Supervisors play a vital role in ensuring CSU Pueblo’s student employment program runs smoothly and meets federal and state compliance standards. Please review the official guide before hiring or managing student workers.
- Hiring procedures and completion of the Student Employment Authorization Form (SEAF).
- Timesheet approval and payroll deadlines.
- Performance management, evaluations, and workplace conduct expectations.
- Equal employment opportunity and FERPA confidentiality guidelines.

Summer, Off-Term & International Employment
Students can continue working during academic breaks and summer terms, provided they meet university eligibility requirements. International students may work under specific federal visa guidelines.
Summer Employment
Students enrolled for the upcoming fall semester may work during summer break. Summer employment can be Work-Study (if eligible) or Hourly depending on funding availability.
- Work up to 40 hours per week during summer breaks.
- Must be enrolled for at least 6 credits for the upcoming fall term to qualify.
- Supervisors must submit a new Student Employment Authorization Form for summer hiring.
Off-Term or Inter-Session Employment
Students not enrolled in traditional semesters but working on campus temporarily (e.g., between graduation or gap terms) may continue employment with department approval.
- Off-term work requires written approval from Human Resources and Financial Aid.
- Students must reapply for Work-Study each academic year through the FAFSA.
- Employment is subject to fund availability and academic standing.
International Student Employment
F-1 and J-1 visa students are eligible to work on campus part-time during semesters and full-time during breaks without special authorization. Off-campus work requires approval from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
- Maintain lawful visa status and full-time enrollment.
- Work limit of 20 hours per week while classes are in session.
- Optional Practical Training (OP T) and Curricular Practical Training (CPT) require prior authorization.
Important Reminders
- Summer and off-term employment requires continued satisfactory academic progress (SAP).
- Students who graduate in spring may only work through the last day of the academic term.
- International students should consult the Office of International Programs before accepting off-campus work.
