2024-25 FAFSA Changes
Financial Aid Offer Letters for New and Transfer students are now available
FAFSA Simplification Act
On December 27, 2020, Congress passed the Consolidated Appropriations Act. The law includes provisions that amend the Fostering Undergraduate Talent by Unlocking Resources for Education (FUTURE) Act and includes the FAFSA Simplification Act – a sweeping redesign of the processes and systems used to award federal student aid. The law makes it easier for students and families to complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form and expands access to federal student aid.
Benefits to Students and Families
- Replacing the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) with the Student Aid Index (SAI)
- Students and families will see a different measure of their ability to pay for college and experience a change in the methodology used to determine aid.
- Expanded Eligibility for Federal Financial Aid
- The FAFSA Simplification Act will expand the Federal Pell Grant to more students and link eligibility to family size and the federal poverty level (estimates are that there will be 500,000 more Pell-qualifying students).
- Improved User Experience for the FAFSA form
- The new FAFSA will offer a more streamlined application process making it less daunting for students and their families. The form asks fewer questions and it retrieves tax information using a direct data exchange from the IRS instead of the previous IRS Data Retrieval tool.
What’s Important to Know Right Now?
- The 2024-2025 is now available to complete on StudentAid.gov.
- Federal Student Aid (FSA) will not be sending FAFSA information to colleges until the beginning of March 2024. Applicants will receive their FAFSA Submission Summary and a notification once their form has been sent to CSU Pueblo.
- To receive full consideration for financial aid at CSU Pueblo, be sure to submit your 2024-2025 FAFSA by the March 1, 2024 priority date.
Creating a StudentAid.gov Account
- We strongly recommend you create your StudentAid.gov account before starting your FAFSA form. When you create your FSA ID, make sure you enter your name and social security number exactly as they appear on your social security card.
- On the 2024-2025 FAFSA, every contributor will need a StudentAid.gov account before they can access and complete their section of the FAFSA.

- Your parent’s social security numbers if you’re a dependent student
- Tax returns
- Records of child support received
- Current balance of cash, savings, and checking accounts
