Apply Classroom Knowledge
Connect biological concepts from lectures and laboratories with organisms, habitats, and ecological systems in the field.
Step outside the classroom and experience biology where it happens. Field learning gives CSU Pueblo students opportunities to observe, measure, collect data, and apply scientific concepts in real-world environments.
Field learning is an important part of the Biology experience at CSU Pueblo. Students have opportunities to apply classroom concepts in outdoor environments while developing practical skills in observation, sampling, data collection, identification, and environmental analysis.
These experiences can complement coursework in Biology, Wildlife & Natural Resources, ecology, environmental science, and other areas where understanding natural systems requires more than laboratory or classroom study.
Connect biological concepts from lectures and laboratories with organisms, habitats, and ecological systems in the field.
Develop experience with field observations, sampling methods, species identification, data collection, and scientific documentation.
Learn in the diverse environments of Southern Colorado and develop a stronger understanding of local ecosystems and natural resources.
Field experience can help prepare students for careers and graduate study in biology, wildlife management, ecology, environmental science, conservation, and related fields.
Depending on courses, faculty projects, and available opportunities, students may participate in field experiences involving:
The Department of Biology maintains collaborations that give Biology and Wildlife & Natural Resources students access to field sites throughout the Pueblo region and Southern Colorado.
Field learning may also become part of an undergraduate research experience. CSU Pueblo Biology students are encouraged to take advantage of both laboratory and field-based research opportunities, including faculty-guided projects and collaborative work with other students.
Students interested in a more formal research experience can also explore the department's Undergraduate Research opportunities.
Field opportunities may vary by course, semester, faculty project, and location. Students interested in field learning should contact the Department of Biology to learn about current opportunities and faculty members working in their areas of interest.
