Service Overview
To fulfill our mission, TRIO serves as a comprehensive educational pipeline that actively clears pathways to and through higher education. We provide high-level, systemic intervention across four core areas:
- Pre-Collegiate & Community Outreach: We actively bridge the gap between secondary education and higher education by providing local middle school, high school, and adult learners with early academic awareness, college prep resources, and direct admissions navigation.
- Comprehensive Academic Navigation: We equip currently enrolled undergraduate students with the structural support necessary to persist in their studies, offering proactive academic advising, structured degree planning, and dedicated peer and professional tutoring.
- Financial Literacy & FAFSA Advocacy: We demystify the cost of higher education by guiding students and families through complex financial aid systems, providing intensive FAFSA completion support, and teaching critical financial management and scholarship navigation skills.
- Specialized Transitional Pathways: We deliver targeted educational access and tailored support structures for unique student populations, including specialized academic prep and benefit navigation for military veterans transitioning into post-secondary life.
Our Approach
Our success is driven by an intentional, student-centered methodology that transforms the university experience from an intimidating system into a navigable, supportive journey:
- Cultivating a Community Hub: We establish dedicated, welcoming spaces within the Library and Academic Resource Center (LARC) that serve as a "home away from home". Here, students find immediate advocacy, peer networks, and the essential resources needed to stay grounded and connected on campus.
- Proactive, Wraparound Advising: We do not wait for students to fall behind. We utilize an intrusive advising model that looks at the whole individual academic, financial, and personal allowing us to deliver critical guidance and intervene before challenges become barriers to graduation.
- Empowering Through Relatable Mentorship: We leverage the power of shared experiences by employing a robust network of peer tutors and professional mentors who understand the unique journey of a first-generation student. This builds trust, boosts confidence, and fosters academic resilience.
- Seamless Pipeline Integration: We build strong, collaborative relationships with local school districts, regional veteran networks, and university leadership. This ecosystem ensures that whether a student enters our programs in middle school, after military service, or as an undergraduate, their transition is seamless and continuously supported.
