McNair Scholars Program

The McNair Scholars program is a highly-selective research and graduate school preparatory program. The goal of McNair is to increase the attainment of Ph.D. for enrolled participants, by intentionally designing opportunities for research and scholarly activities, summer research opportunities, seminars, faculty mentorship, and other workshops designed to prepare participants for doctoral studies.

Program Benefits

McNair provides the following benefits to participants:

  • Paid traveling opportunities to disciplinary and/or McNair conferences
  • Paid tuition for research courses
  • Cultural engagement
  • Paid summer research for at least one summer
  • Graduate school preparation
  • GRE preparation and fee reduction waivers 
  • Professional development seminars
  • Mentoring from professors, advisors and graduate students
  • Academic support and enrichment
  • Paid travel to visit prospective graduate school programs
  • Access to a network of McNair scholars and mentors nationwide

Participant Expectations

As a McNair Scholar, you will:

  • Take part in advising and graduate school preparation with McNair faculty, staff and peer mentors
  • Work with a faculty mentor to create and execute a research plan 
  • Complete a research project and conference ready presentation
  • Attend monthly seminars related to graduate school, leadership and cultural awareness
  • Prepare for and complete the GRE (when applicable) and graduate school applications

Eligibility

To be eligible, you:

  •  Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  •  Must be a low-income student as defined by the federal low-income levels who is also a first-generation college student OR must be a member of a  group that is underrepresented in graduate education
  •  Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate in a degree program at Colorado State University Pueblo
  •  Must have completed 60 credits by the time of initial entry into the program
  •  Must have at least one year remaining before graduation 
  •  Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  •  Must have a STRONG desire to attain a doctoral degree
