Program Admission
Step 1 - University Application
All students interested in the Bachelor of Social Work program must apply to CSU Pueblo in addition to the department.
Students can apply to Colorado State University Pueblo here:
Important: Applicants must submit a $35 payment for their application
Step 2 - Meet With Your Pack Center Academic Success Coach
Your Academic Success Coach will contact you once you have met the required credits to begin the social work program. It is important to express your interest in the Social Work Program by your junior year.
Eligibility into the Social Work Program will begin during the junior year. Students need to meet with an academic success coach each semester to avoid impact entrance to 300 level courses, field eligibility, and/or proposed graduation date.
Once students have met all eligibility requirements, your Success Team will guide you through the following application process below:
Part 1 - Submit an Undergraduate BSW Application
Before applying for admission into the social work program, students need to be aware that, almost without exception, social service agencies which meet our requirements for practicum placements during the senior year now require background checks as well as alcohol and drug testing at the student's expense.
These are the policies of social service agencies throughout this area, not CSU Pueblo or the Department of Social Work. A criminal history may limit or prohibit a student's ability to obtain a field placement as well as limit or prohibit employment in social service agencies following graduation with a BSW degree.
It is recommended that students who have concerns about undergoing a background check, discuss their situation with the Chair of the Social Work Department or their advisor to determine the feasibility of continuing in the social work program before completing the process of admission into the program.
Social Work students who are in the second semester of their junior year and entering the 300-level courses should apply for admission into the BSW application.
Students must complete the following social work courses before applying for admission: SOC101, PSYCH100, a course in human biology, and a course in political science.
Copies of the application for admission to the social work program will be distributed and explained in SW 202, 205, and 222 courses.
