PUEBLO, Colo. – Colorado State University Pueblo will welcome Anna Escobedo Cabral, former Treasurer of the United States, for a campus visit on Tuesday, September 9, marking the beginning of National Hispanic Heritage Month a week later.

Cabral's visit highlights CSU Pueblo's commitment to showcasing successful Hispanic leaders and providing students with inspiring role models who have broken barriers at the highest levels of government.

Cabral will visit Dr. Eddie Lucero's "Race & Ethnicity in American Democracy" class and Dr. Sheng-Ping Yang's "Principles of Finance" course. The day also features a Ballet Folklórico performance and keynote address where students can engage with a leader who has championed Hispanic representation in government and cultural institutions.

Cabral made history when President Bush nominated her as Treasurer of the United States in 2004. The Senate confirmed her appointment, placing her signature on all U.S. currency during her tenure.

Previously, she directed the Smithsonian Institution's Center for Latino Initiatives, spearheading efforts to increase Hispanic representation across the institution's 19 museums, five research centers, and National Zoo.

From 1999 to 2003, she led the Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility, partnering with Fortune 500 companies to expand representation in hiring, procurement, and leadership. The organization developed best practice guidelines and created an executive training partnership with Harvard Business School.

Her government service began in the U.S. Senate as Deputy Staff Director for the Judiciary Committee under Chairman Orrin G. Hatch. She also managed the Republican Conference Task Force on Hispanic Affairs, coordinating 25 senators focused on Latino community concerns.

The campus visit includes meetings with student government leaders and the CSU Pueblo Hispanic Serving Institution team.

For students, Cabral's presence offers proof that paths to national leadership remain open. Hispanic Heritage Month provides an annual opportunity to recognize Latino contributions, but this visit makes those contributions immediate and personal for the campus community.
