School of Nursing 5K Run for Suicide Awareness
Release Date: May 16, 2018
Colorado State-Pueblo School of Nursing hosts 5k in partnership with the NAMI on June 9
PUEBLO - The School of Nursing at Colorado State University–Pueblo will host a community 5k in partnership with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) on Saturday, June 9 to spread awareness of suicide and suicide prevention within the Pueblo community. Funds also will be shared with the House Bill 1451, which provides funds for children who otherwise could not afford to participate in after school activities, and thus getting them involved in social peer interactions to promote support among the youth. The “Run for Life 5K” seeks to target and combat the high suicide rate among teens and youth within the Pueblo community by raising awareness through programs (funded by dollars raised) that will diminish the occurrences.
The race will kick off at the Neta & Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl Stadium at 9 a.m. Participants can expect a hilly and mostly unshaded course; however, the majority of the path is paved, and water will be supplied at water stations dispersed along the track. Participants should note that running is not a requirement for the race, as it is a run/walk event. Participants will start at 9 a.m., with runners starting in front, and walkers filing in behind.
Early registration is now open with a fee of $18 through May 31. From June 1-7, registration will be $25. On race day, June 9, the registration fee will rise to $30. A shirt in your requested size is guaranteed with registrations completed by June 7. After June 7, size requests are on a first come, first served basis.
