Colorado State University–Pueblo hosts new freshmen at Discover Downtown Aug. 16
PUEBLO –For the second straight year, Colorado State University-Pueblo has joined with a variety of community businesses and organizations to host nearly 700 freshmen and their parents at a Discover Downtown event from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 16. The event is sponsored by CSU-Pueblo, Historic Arkansas Riverwalk of Pueblo, Pueblo Downtown Association, Pueblo Parks and Recreation, the Pueblo Arts Alliance, El Pueblo History Museum, Professional Bull Riders, and the Greater Pueblo Chamber and Latino Chamber.
All CSU-Pueblo students, staff, faculty and the Pueblo community are invited to welcome the new freshmen to our community. The students and their parents will receive food vouchers to be used at seven different restaurants for their evening meal, including Angelos Pizza Parlor, Bingo Burger, Brues Alehouse, Gold Dust Saloon, Graham's Grill, The Place, and The Senate.
Scheduled activities include a farmer's market, free excursion boat rides and pedal boats along the Riverwalk, shopping with discounts and giveaways, extended hours and free admittance to the El Pueblo History Museum and Center for American Values, paddle board yoga by StudioShare, demonstrations by the Edge, pottery painting through Fire Playce, and games with HARP and CSU-Pueblo's Outdoor Pursuits. In addition, live music will be performed by Mid-Life Crisis during the Farmer’s Market and Beyond Bridges from 7-9 p.m. at Brues Alehouse. CSU-Pueblo’s award-winning, student-operated radio station, REV 89, also will be on site with a live remote, and the ThunderWolf Marching Band will wind their way through the Riverwalk in a special performance at 5:30 p.m. Free ice skating also will be available at the Pueblo Ice Arena from 4-5 p.m.
"It’s so important to make our new students feel welcome and comfortable in their new home away from home," said Cora Zaletel, event organizer, “and to introduce them to all that this community has to offer from art and cultural attractions to delicious ethnic cuisine.”
