Press Release

PUEBLO – Six grand pianos and more than 70 musicians will be featured as part of the “Monster” piano concert scheduled at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7 in Hoag Recital Hall at Colorado State University-Pueblo. The concert is free of charge.

The concert is but one part of the Sixth annual Pueblo Keyboard Arts Festival. The event will feature current CSU-Pueblo music students and faculty, CSU-Pueblo music alumni, as well as local piano teachers and their students. The program will include Bach Concerto for Four Keyboards and String Orchestra in A minor, Stars and Stripes Forever, and original works by composer and music department chair Dr. David Volk and Dr. David Cutler, University of South Carolina.

A reception (free to music alumni) will precede the concert at 6 p.m., but reservations are required by Nov. 1 through  zahari.metchkov@csupueblo.edu

Alumni performers will range from those who graduated just last year to some who graduated 30 years ago.

Associate Professor Zahari Metchkov said he will draw upon his relationships through the local music association to invite those teachers and their students to join in a variety of multiple piano and performer pieces.

“I have not delved into such a MONSTROUS  project before, but the message is that music and piano is for people of all ages who can work and play together,” he said.

Metchkov hopes to continue the tradition by inviting a different set of alumni to play each year.
