Press Release

PUEBLO - The Colorado State University-Pueblo will sponsor events for alumni and area students as part of the 11-day Colorado State Fair, Aug. 22-Sept. 1.

CSU-Pueblo will sponsor Back to School Fridays at the Colorado State Fair, August 22 and 29, offering free admission to students K-12 from Pueblo County schools and the surrounding areas on those two days along with a free ThunderHill ticket to any 2014 regular season home CSU-Pueblo football game, a free drink from Loaf N Jug, and discount carnival band.  Rev 89 will broadcast from the Carnival area on those days and the CSU-Pueblo presence will be visible through flags, banners, advertising, and giveaway items.

Award-winning student operated radio station, Rev 89.5 FM, will broadcast live from the Colorado State Fair just outside the Carnival area Aug. 21-23 and Aug. 29-30. Rev 89 earned the 2014 Signature Station Award from the Broadcast Education Association. Out of 471 college radio stations in the nation, REV 89 was chosen as being superior in content, creativity, and execution.

Be sure to look for the ThunderWolf Marching Band, cheer and dance squads, and CSU-Pueblo President Lesley Di Mare in the Colorful Colorado State Fair Parade on August 23 as well as the Fiesta Day Parade on August 31. CSU-Pueblo’s own Andrea Casados of Pueblo will reign over the 24th annual Noche de Fiesta Celebracion as 2014 Fiesta Queen. She will be the first Fiesta Queen to serve as a Colorado State Fair Ambassador and aspires to attend law school once she graduates from CSU-Pueblo.

The Alumni Association will sponsor a dinner from  6 – 8 p.m. on Friday, August 29 in the Colorado Building on the Colorado State Fairgrounds. Tickets are $10 per person and include gate admission, the Alumni Dinner, and a fun evening complete with photos with Wolfie and Tundra and performances from the Pack’s Cheer and Dance Teams.

A special CSU-Pueblo area will be available later in the evening at the Weatherport tent, where alumni and friends can gather for live music by Triple Nickel throughout the evening.

As part of the State Fair alumni event, participants will have the opportunity to taste the new commemorative CSU–Pueblo wine, ThunderWolf Red – Spirit of the Pack, that is available exclusively through 80/Twenty Wines, located at 415 N. Greenwood.  A portion of each bottle sold will be donated back to the CSU-Pueblo Alumni Association to benefit the Alumni Association’s Scholarship Program.

Tickets will be on sale in the Office of Alumni Relations, OUC 111, beginning on Monday, August 18. For more information, call Tracy Samora, director of alumni relations, at 719.549.2858 or  email tracy.samora@csupueblo.edu.
