PUEBLO – The student radio station at Colorado State University-Pueblo ranked third in the Pueblo market among men and women aged 12 and older during the first quarter of 2014.

According to Spring 2014 Nielsen Audio rankings, the standard for measuring radio ratings in the United States, Rev 89 has a total of 25,700 listeners in Pueblo. These listeners represent 18.8% of Pueblo’s 12+ community. On average, 900 people tune into the radio station during any 15-minute period, between 6 a.m. to midnight, Monday through Sunday. The average Rev 89 listener spends four hours with the station every week.

The radio station is part of the electronic media curriculum in the mass communications department and is staffed by students majoring or minoring in the department. It is funded primarily from station underwriting. CSU-Pueblo is the only University in the state that offers on-campus, hands-on experiences at public television and public radio stations as well as with print and on-line publications.

“We are so proud of our team at Rev89.5, Professor Sam Lovato, media manager Jenna Mangino, and our amazing student staff that have, once again, achieved ratings that demonstrate a strong following of devoted listeners,” said Mass Communications Department Chair Sam Ebersole. “It is a thrill to see their hard work acknowledged once again with the recognition they so deserve.”

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC)-licensed station will celebrate 44 years of continuous operation on Oct. 12, 2014. Approximately 15-20 students each semester are enrolled in the media lab that provides both operation and on-air talent to the station.

Earlier this year, the station earned the Broadcast Education Association's National Signature Station Award for 2014. Out of 471 college radio stations in the United States, KTSC-FM REV 89 was chosen as being superior in content, creativity, and execution. The panel of judges included academic and radio industry experts who critiqued the station in several categories, including audio production, announcing, music programming, station policy, web presence and social media.
