CSU-Pueblo recognizes Holocaust Remembrance Day April 28

PUEBLO –Colorado State University-Pueblo will sponsor a day of activities, including a memorial service, poetry reading, and personal testimony, on Monday, April 28 in recognition of Holocaust Remembrance Day. Throughout the day, educational exhibits about the Holocaust will be on display in the Library and Academic Resources Center and an installation to remember those who perished will be available in the Diversity Resource Center, Occhiato University Center 003. All events are open to the public at no charge.

Community member Helena Atlas-Acuna will share stories about her personal connection to the Holocaust beginning at 11 a.m. in Psychology 220. 

From noon-1 p.m. in Psychology 205, Dr. Krista Bridgmon, associate professor of psychology, will lead a discussion about survivor testimonies, trauma, and the importance of sharing oral histories.  

English and Foreign Languages Associate Professor Juan Morales will present a poetry reading from 12:30-1 p.m. in the OUC Lounge Area, where members of Student Organization Prizm will distribute identification cards of Holocaust victims until 3:30 p.m.  

A memorial service led by Rabbi Roberta Becker will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the OUC Aspen Leaf Room, featuring a musical performance by CSU-Pueblo music students under the direction of Music Professor Dr. David Volk. 

A viewing of the film Paperclips, will begin at 5:30 p.m. in LARC 109, following by a discussion led by Associate Professor of Mathematics Jonathan Poritz and Cailun McCullough Paperclips is a documentary film that features the story of the children of a Whitwell, Tenn., Middle School, who, as part of their study of the Holocaust, attempted to collect six million paper clips representing the 6 million Jews killed by the Nazis.
