Press Release

PUEBLO – Colorado State University-Pueblo continues its Theatre revival with a production of Yasmina Reza’s three-time Tony Award-winning modern comedy, God of Carnage, on        April  18-19 & 25-26 in Hoag Recital Hall. Sponsored by the College of Humanities & Social Science (CHASS) with the support of The Anthony T. and Theresa H. Capps-Capozzolo Center for the Creative and Performing Arts, the production also provides a practicum for students in the University’s “Play Production in Theatre” class (US 291/491), giving students a chance to work with regional Theatre professionals.

God of Carnage will be presented at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday for two weekends, April 18-19 & 25-26, in the University’s Hoag Recital Hall. A reception will follow the show on opening night, April 18.

Directed by Dorothy Heedt of the CSU-Pueblo English program, God of Carnage exposes the carefully crafted facades that guard the secrets of two couples as they try to be civilized about how to deal with a fight between their kids. Played by regional favorites Cynthia Pohlson, James Amos, Casiena Raether, and Cory Moosman, each character finds that being civilized can be extremely difficult – especially when interacting with their spouses.

The New York Times wrote that God of Carnage "delivers the cathartic release of watching other people’s marriages go boom. [It’s] a study in the tension between civilized surface and savage instinct.” Variety described it as “elegant, acerbic, and entertainingly fueled on pure bile. It’s Reza’s sharpest work since ‘Art’,” another Tony Award-winner for Best Play.

Tickets are available at the door: $10 general, $7 student/staff/senior/military, with special $4 pricing for CSU-Pueblo students. For more information on the performance, email CSUPuebloTheatre@gmail.com.
