Symphony concert to feature CSU-Pueblo's Zahari Metchkov

PUEBLO –  The Pueblo Symphony, under the direction of Conductor Dr. Jacob Chi, will feature CSU-Pueblo faculty member Dr. Zahari Metchkov on piano and pipe organ as part of its fifth season concert of the 2013-2014 season, 88 Keys & 4,000 Pipes. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 8 in Hoag Recital Hall.

Metchkov is a pianist and an organist who has performed at New York’s Avery Fisher Hall and Washington’s Kennedy Center among other venues in the United States and worldwide, including Israel and Bulgaria. Metchkov holds a bachelor’s degree in piano and organ performance, a master’s degree in piano performance, and a doctoral degree in piano performance with a minor in music theory from the Cleveland Institute of Music, Cleveland, Ohio.  He joined the CSU-Pueblo music faculty in the fall of 2010 as an assistant professor of music. 

Metchkov will be featured on the piano in Liszt’s Totentanz (Dance of the Dead)”:  Paraphrase on Dies irae, S. 126 and in Poulenc’s Concerto for Organ, Timpani and Strings in G minor.  The organ in Hoag Recital Hall was installed in 1978 and is a pipe organ from the Schlicker Organ Company.  

Metchkov will perform a short selection from the concert at a luncheon hosted by PS Friends at noon on Friday, March 7 at The Albany Events Center, catered by Rosario’s.  Cost of the luncheon is $18, and reservations are required by calling the PSA office, 719-545-7967, by Wednesday, March 5.
