ACS Certified
The Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry with a concentration in ACS Certified prepares students to demonstrate knowledge of basic laboratory skills, methods, and equipment used in chemistry for observation and analysis of chemical systems.
Students graduating with this emphasis are prepared to pursue graduate study in chemistry, professional schools (e.g., chemical engineering, medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, and other health sciences), or an entry-level position with the chemical industries.
The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with ACS concentration is certified by the American Chemical Society.
Basic Chemistry
The Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry with a concentration in Basic Chemistry prepares students to work in various career opportunities in education, research, government, medical practice, and much more.
Students will gain a strong knowledge of concepts and terminology in organic/inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, and instrumental chemistry.
The program provides a basic understanding of chemistry principles, so that students may understand the scientific approaches to drive improvements in chemistry-related fields.
Biochemistry
The Biology & Chemistry Double Major concentration program combines the study of chemistry with biology courses, so that students may understand core knowledge to drive a scientific approach in chemistry-related fields.
The program will prepare students with the knowledge and skills to succeed in graduate or professional medical school.
We offer advising toward several professional programs. Specific requirements vary and faculty mentors will assist with course choices.
Double Major
The Chemistry Double Major concentration program combines the study of an approved second major with chemistry courses, so that students may understand core knowledge to drive a scientific approach in chemistry-related fields.
The program will prepare students with the knowledge and skills to succeed in graduate or professional medical school.
We offer advising toward several professional programs. Specific requirements vary and faculty mentors will assist with course choices.
Environmental Chemistry
The Environmental Chemistry concentration program combines the study of environmental science with chemistry courses, so that students may understand core knowledge to drive a scientific approach in bioscience-related fields.
Students will not only learn to understand helps the implications of damages being done to the environment through chemical production and disposal but also to resolve the problems and improve conditions for the environment.
Students will gain a strong knowledge of concepts and terminology in organismal biology, cellular biology, molecular, and microbiology.
Secondary Certification
The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with a concentration in Secondary Teaching is for students who seek to obtain a K-12 teacher license in Chemistry. Students will also work closely with the Teacher Education Program to gain the experience and necessary skills to thrive, lead, and innovate in the classroom.
Preparation for secondary science education involves a B.S. in a science discipline, plus a minor in education. This minor includes courses with field experience hours in a school district.
Students apply for formal admission to the teacher education program during the Frameworks in Education course (ED 301). In addition to coursework, students must pass a PRAXIS content exam for science prior to acceptance for student teaching during their last semester.
