Division of Student Affairs

Mission Statement

The Division of Student Affairs supports the University’s mission by providing inclusive co-curricular learning experiences, support, and services for our diverse student population by holistically developing students to have a purpose and positive impact in their communities.   

Our Goals/Learning Outcomes:

Goal 1: Holistic learning and development 
Providing comprehensive whole-student support, resources, and experiences that promote personal growth, well-being, and community engagement.
By engaging with Student Affair’s departments, students will be able to: 
  1. Identify resources that support their success.
  2. Obtain and utilize resources that meet their individual needs.
  3. Practice skills that enhance their holistic well-being.
  4. Integrate new knowledge and experiences into an existing belief system.
  5. Demonstrate commitment to fellow community members. 
Goal 2: Students’ sense of belonging  
Cultivate a welcoming and inclusive campus community, foster meaningful connections with peers, staff, faculty, and community members, and provide spaces where students feel seen, valued, and respected.  
By engaging with Student Affair’s departments, students will be able to: 
  1. Develop meaningful connections with peers, staff, faculty, and community members.
  2. Develop and participate in programs or initiatives that lead to a vibrant campus community.
  3. Define what it means to be a Thunderwolf, articulating how they incorporate the guiding principles of CSU Pueblo within their daily lives.
  4. Students will recognize behaviors and practices that contribute to a campus climate where all individuals feel seen, valued, and respected. 
Goal 3: Data-driven
Utilize data to inform practice and drive continuous improvements through key assessment tools. Ensure our practices are evidence based and responsive to student performance.  
The Division of Student Affairs will
  1. Identify and collect from relevant data sources to assess student needs and program effectiveness.
  2. Utilize a variety of assessment tools to gather actionable insights.
  3. Demonstrate data informed decision-making skills to improve programs and services.
  4. Apply assessment findings to implement improvements and measure the impact of changes over time.
  5. Effectively communicate assessment results to support understanding and the importance of Student Affairs.
Goal 4: Professional and student staff development
Utilizing professional organization competencies (NASPA/ACPA, NIRSA, AHEAD, etc.), implement comprehensive training programs, collaborative learning opportunities, and competency-building initiatives to effectively respond to the evolving needs of a varied student population. 
The Division of Student Affairs will 
  1. Identify and apply professional organization competencies (NASPA/ACPA, NIRSA, AHEAD, etc.) applicable to professional or functional area within Student Affairs.
  2. Demonstrate application of best practices in program design and implementation.
  3. Design and participate in professional development opportunities that enhance knowledge and skills of student affairs staff.
  4. Develop staff competency to meet the unique needs of our campus community.

Student Affairs' Pillars

    Student Affairs' Operations

    Student Affairs' Operations provides support to the Student Affairs division related to fiscal management, University processes and procedures, marketing and technology, and similar business functions. It is housed in the Vice President of Student Affairs office.

    Holistic Well-Being

    The Holistic Well-Being pillar supports student success through strategically integrated resources for total well-being. This pillar of programs and services support both the psychological and physical well-being of university students.

    This integrated well-being model creates a campus culture that values health and wellness as a key component of success for students while attending the University and in their future lives. This pillar is comprised of the following units and programs:

    Student Learning, Engagement, and Development (SLED)

    The Student Learning, Engagement, Development (SLED) pillar provides opportunities, including a broad range of programs and activities that support the social, cultural, and intellectual vitality of student life for students both off and on campus. These programs strengthen personal growth, support accountability and community standards, and enhance good citizenship development. The pillar provides students with co-curricular learning and leadership development opportunities through activities, events, student organizations, fraternity and sorority life, orientation and transition programs, and commencement which promote and enhance their student experience and provide them with a sense of belonging at the University.

    The Student Life pillar provides quality, student-focused programs and services that encourage the development of an involved and educated community. This pillar is comprised of the following units and programs:

    Student Support & Advocacy

    The Student Support & Advocacy pillar helps students to reach their full potential while at the university by providing educational opportunities and increased cultural awareness through initiatives and services. This pillar empowers students by developing academic and social skills, fostering resilience, expanding awareness of resources, and cultivating the ability to navigate the communities in which they live and learn.

    This pillar supports Student Affairs’ programs, including Pack CARES, Student Affairs’ Assessment, and the Disability Resource and Support Center.

    The Center for Student Support and Advocacy is the embodiment of this pillar. The Center promotes inclusive excellence through:

Dr. Marie Humphrey, Vice President of Student Affairs, leads the Division of Student Affairs and directly supervises the pillars and their respective Dean, Associate, or Assistant Dean:
