The SCITT at CSU Pueblo to Host National Summer Transportation Institute (NSTI) Program for Middle School Students with No Cost to Students

PUEBLO — The Southern Colorado Institute of Transportation Technology (SCITT) at Colorado State University Pueblo (CSU Pueblo) is pleased to announce a two-week non-residential National Summer Transportation Institute (NSTI) program which takes place Wednesday, June 5 through Tuesday, June 18 for middle school students. The NSTI program is open to all students in sixth through eighth grades currently attending public and private schools in Colorado with no cost to students. A maximum of 25 students will be selected from the NSTI applications to participate in the 2024 summer program. The program will run daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

“We’re excited to host this opportunity for middle school students and to get these students introduced to the transportation industry,” said Dr. Md Islam, the Director of SCITT and Associate Professor of engineering." Students can experience relevant work opportunities, learn about transportation careers and meet professionals in the industry.”

The objective of the NSTI program is to provide awareness and stimulate interest in secondary school students to take advantage of opportunities that exist in the transportation industry. Student participants will be introduced to a variety of transportation systems, learn about career opportunities in transportation, relevant educational and skill requirements, and have opportunities to meet people who work in various areas of the transportation system in the state of Colorado. The study topics include highway operations, highway safety, materials, bridges, railways, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and homeland security. In addition, students will participate in various activities including:

  • Seminars and demonstrations
  • Laboratory projects or hands-on activities
  • Field trips
  • Classroom instruction to enhance academic and technology skills
  •  

Students interested in the NSTI program should complete and submit a 2024 NSTI Application Form provided by CSU Pueblo. 

All applications should be received as soon as possible but no later than Friday, May 17th, 2024.
