A maximum of 25 students will be selected from the NSTI applications to participate in the 2024 summer program.

Students interested in the program are encouraged to apply immediately. The NSTI program is open to all students in sixth through eighth grades currently attending public and private schools in Colorado. The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is sponsoring the program with the support from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The objective of the NSTI program is to provide awareness and stimulate interest in secondary school students to take advantage of opportunities that exist in the transportation industry.

In addition, students will participate in various activities including:

  • Seminars and demonstrations
  • Laboratory projects or hands-on activities
  • Field trips and recreation
  • Classroom instruction to enhance academic and STEM skills

The study topics include highway operations, highway safety, materials, bridges, railways, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and homeland security.
