PUEBLO - A Colorado State University-Pueblo Mass Communications professor will be honored April 21 as the Journalism Educator of the Year by the Society of Professional Journalist Colorado Pro Chapter, Region. 9.

CSU-Pueblo Associate Professor Richard Joyce will receive the Journalism Educator of the Year Award for Colorado Pro Chapter, Region 9 at the Denver Press Club's, Top of the Rockies event, on April 21. Joyce has taught at the University for more than 20 years and will retire at the end of the Spring semester.

Joyce has had an accomplished career in journalism since earning his master's degree in journalism from University of Colorado - Boulder in 1983. He also holds a bachelor's degree in Mass Communications from then University of Southern Colorado (now CSU-Pueblo) and a second bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Scranton (PA). He has served as editor of the Canon City Daily Record and co-founded the Redstone Review in 2005 with a former CU classmate. He currently serves as the vice president of Redstone Review.

During his career, he has contributed as a news reporter, editor, photographer, and public relations writer/photographer for various clients, including the Pueblo Chieftain, the Rocky Mountain News, Alma Magazine, the Alamosa Valley Courier, the Colorado Springs Gazette-Telegraph, and the Colorado Editor. He has won numerous editorial, writing, and photography awards from the Colorado Press Association, the Inland Press Association, and the Colorado State Fair.

The Society of Professional Journalism Colorado Pro Chapter 9's mission is dedicated to the perpetuation of a free press as the cornerstone of our nation and our liberty.
