Support Services

There are multiple support services and resources available to individuals both on and off of the University’s Campus. These support services and resources may include, but are not necessarily limited to, counseling, health services, mental health services, victim advocacy, legal assistance, visa and immigration services, and/or the availability of forensic exam (i.e. “SANE”). A list and brief description of specific support services and resources available to individuals can be found in Appendix C.

CSU-Pueblo makes no warranties, either express or implied, regarding confidentiality or with respect to any other aspect of services offered by resources off campus.

Parkview Hospital Emergency Department

Parkview’s 32-bed Emergency Department treats a variety of medical conditions, ranging from minor cuts and illnesses to life threatening injuries to provide you and your family emergency services. As a Level II Trauma Center, the ER is staffed around the clock with an elite team of medical professionals who are here to treat, diagnose and provide continued care when necessary.

Parkview Hospital Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program

Parkview Medical Center’s team of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE Nurses) are trained, experienced and committed professionals who are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Rapid and appropriate response is crucial to reducing the immediate trauma that the victim experiences as well as improving patient’s potential for long term recovery.

A Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner is an expert forensic clinician trained to provide comprehensive and sensitive sexual assault examinations. As a professional registered nurse who has received specialized forensic education, a SANE demonstrates clinical competence in the collection of forensic evidence for both adult and child victims, as well as suspect evidence collection and has the ability to provide expert witness testimony in a court of law.

The goal of SANE Programs is to reduce the physical and psychological trauma of SA victims and improve evidence collection through a sensitive and timely forensic examination. SANE programs have brought the care of the SA victim to an era of prompt comprehensive treatment with meticulous collection and documentation of legally sound evidence as well as compassionate care and support.

Advocacy

  • Hotline Response: 24/7 free and confidential advocacy, support, information, and resource referral through a crisis hotline
  • Hospital Response: 24/7 free and confidential hospital accompaniment
  • Court Accompaniment: Case managers offer emotional support through the entire process of prosecution
  • Victim's Rights: Throughout the hospital process and anything that may come after, including the legal process, we ensure the fair and just treatment of each individual
  • Victim Compensation: Victims of a crime may be eligible for victim compensation and can apply through the District Attorney's office.

Support

  • Case Management: Our staff works with survivors both short and long term, providing consistent and continued support, information, resources, and advocacy
  • Support Groups: Offered twice a year, support groups are facilitated by a licensed counselor and connects survivors to each other.

Referrals

  • Community Referrals Advocates and case managers provide referrals to appropriate community agencies to provide additional support through the healing process
  • Referrals are given case by case and to the needs of each individual client
  • Referrals include but are not limited to continued health care support, mental health support, substance abuse intervention, legal support, suicide prevention

A Community Organization for Victim Assistance (ACOVA)

  • Advocates are trained in crisis intervention to help victims with their trauma and getting them back on track
  • We assist victims following a crime or incident by providing crisis intervention, referrals to supportive agencies such as emergency shelter, victim compensation funds and counseling
  • ACOVA can assist with requesting a restraining order through the county courts
  • Information on restraining orders and ACOVA's restraining order clinic is also available on ACOVA's website at http://acovapueblo.org

This program is a professional assessment, referral, and short-term counseling service offered to State employees with work-related or personal concerns, as well as a resource for supervisors and managers. Counseling services are confidential and free of charge.
