Emphasis Areas

All students pursuing the Bachelor of Science in History may select an emphasis area as a specialization to their Degree. We offer the following areas of emphasis:

General Education Emphasis

The Bachelor of Science in History with an emphasis in General Education offers a rigorous curriculum, emphasizing knowledge, communication, critical reasoning, research, and on-the-job experience.


The program is designed to allow you to develop the skills you will need to enter the workforce in government, business, teaching, and public history, or to prepare for graduate or law school.



The General emphasis requires a total of 42 credit hours. 

Secondary Education Emphasis

The Bachelor of Science in History with an emphasis in Secondary prepares students for teaching at the middle and high school level. Students will also work closely with the Teacher Education Program to gain the experience and necessary skills to thrive, lead, and innovate in the classroom.


The program also provides students with foundational knowledge in the following:

  • Human Development
  • Childhood Adolescence
  • Educational Psychology 
  • Foundations of Education 
  • Educational Media and Technology
  • And Much More!


The Secondary Education emphasis requires a total of 40 credit hours.

Advising for summer courses is open. New and current students are eligible for a $500 summer scholarship if enrolled in 9 or more summer credits.
