Faculty: Prepare for Teaching in Canvas

  1. Know where to get the level of support you need
Review instructor and student guides from Canvas, get answers to frequently asked questions, or see who the Canvas Champion is for your department and how to reach out to them on the Canvas Transition Support site.
  2. Review the Canvas minimum use requirements for faculty from the Provost Office
There are course syllabus and gradebook requirements for all courses in Canvas, approved by Faculty Senate, which are available from the Provost Office.
  3. Log into Canvas with your NetID credentials
If you are not able to access Canvas after entering your NetID and NetID password, please submit a ticket to the Canvas Transition team so we can check your account.
  4. Review and revise your migrated course content in Canvas
Here's what courses and content you can find in Canvas now: Spring 2026, Fall 2025, courses and content from the last time other courses were taught per instructor to preserve courses that run every other year or were taught by another faculty member (these can be from the 2020-2025 semesters), and a sandbox course. Try starting with these steps:
-Get familiar with the course: Click through all the content areas in your course to see where migrated content was put and what you might want to edit or move
-Look for imported content errors: Make sure the imported content does not have any import issues that may need to be fixed
-Validate links: Use the link validator tool in the course settings to verify links to course content throughout your course to ensure they are valid
-Begin reviewing and revising course content: we recommend starting with the gradebook, reviewing the settings in all Assignments and Discussions, and structuring your content into your desired format in Modules
**Note: Once you have finished revising your course in preparation for teaching the live version, we recommend entering the "View as Student" mode and doing a final check of the course to make sure everything is functioning as expected.
  5. Gain insights into course development and Canvas features by joining the the Canvas onboarding course
The Welcome to Canvas for Teachers course is available to users after logging in to Canvas and provides more structured walkthroughs, access to the Canvas training recordings, and more!
  6. Register for training sessions
Sign up for webinars and workshops to learn how to build and teach in Canvas.
  7. Submit questions or concerns to the Canvas Transition team.
Use the Canvas support site for help and assistance.

Faculty: Prepare for the Retirement of Blackboard

Blackboard is being retired at CSU Pueblo in 2027. Faculty should prepare for this platform to be unavailable for editing in January 2027 and unavailable permanently in June 2027 by completing the following steps.

  1. Review your Blackboard courses
The Canvas Transition team has migrated Resident Instruction course content from the Spring 2026 and Fall 2025 semesters, course content from the last time other courses were taught per instructor to preserve courses that run every other year or were taught by another faculty member, and the Extended Studies templates. However, it is always recommended to create your own back up export package of your courses for your records.
  2. Download the files or courses you want to keep
For specific files and folders: Course Navigation Menu → Course ManagementContent CollectionAll Courses Content. Select files or folders, then click Download Package.
For entire courses: Course Navigation Menu → Course ManagementPackages and Utilities Export/Archive Course. Select Export Package or Archive Course depending on your preference.
▶ Watch how to download course files (video)
▶ Watch how to export or archive complete courses (video)
  3. Upload the zip packages and files to a folder on your device or to your CSU Pueblo OneDrive
  4. Submit questions or concerns to the Canvas Transition Team.
Use the Canvas support site for help and assistance.
