Blackboard to Canvas Transition Project Timeline

Follow the transition from Blackboard to Canvas as CSU Pueblo prepares for full Canvas adoption.

Phase 1: Pre-Implementation & Planning

May 2025 – July 2025

Project initiation and planning phase, including leadership alignment and early scoping.

Phase 2: Canvas Setup & Configuration

July 2025 – March 2026

Canvas instance creation, system configuration, and integration setup to prepare the platform.

Phase 3: Training, Course Access & Content Migration

March 2026 – August 2026

Faculty Training (Ongoing)

  • Virtual and in-person training sessions
  • Focus on foundational skills and course development readiness

Courses Available in Canvas

  • Canvas Champions have early access to course shells with migrated Blackboard content.
  • All instructors have sandbox courses for practice and course building using the CSU Pueblo template.
  • Past courses are available as reference materials only, not for teaching or development.

Content Migration (In Progress)

  • Extended Studies courses: migration complete; remediation ongoing
  • Resident Instruction courses: nearing completion

Note: Migrated content may vary in completeness and should be reviewed before use.

Phase 4: Blackboard Retirement

December 31, 2026

  • Blackboard enters read-only mode.
  • No new Blackboard courses will be created.

Phase 5: Full Canvas Adoption

January 1, 2027

Canvas becomes the primary Learning Management System for all CSU Pueblo courses.
