Pack Closet

Basic Clothing Needs

To assist students with basic clothing needs, a volunteer university committee has created the Pack Closet. The committee has collected, cleaned, and organized donated items. For requests not covered by current donations, the committee will email a LISTSERV of staff, faculty, and community members who have agreed to donate or volunteer. Student names will never be shared with the LISTSERV.

While the process may take up to 2 weeks to complete, you should expect some form of communication within five business days.

The basic process is as follows:

  1. Student submits form.
  2. Committee member compiles needs and checks donated items.
    1. An email is sent to student with expected timeline (immediate package or waiting on donations).
  3. If current inventory does not cover the request, committee member will email a group of donors to see if the needs can be filled.
  4. A package is created and "mailed" to the student through the Auxiliary Services student mail process (OSC 212). 
  5. Student receives an email from Auxiliary Services about having a package to pick up.
  6. Student receives package. Tries on and reviews items. 
  7. Student returns any unwanted/unneeded items to Auxiliary Services, per instructions given in the package.

    Join the Committee

    The Pack Closet committee is a volunteer committee that receives no compensation or flex time for work provided. This committee does not expect any sort of recognition and will primarily work behind the scenes. 

    Basic functions of the committee:

    • Organize and facilitate monthly donations/cleaning/sorting days
    • Maintain online form and respond to student needs
    • Market the program and associated activities. Keeping website and form current.
    • Correspond with LISTSERV as needed
    • Work with other university committees to maximum impact

    Join the LISTSERV

    Not able to commit to regular participation of a committee but still want to help when possible? Great! Join the LISTSERV. 

    1. Add your name to our list. 
    2. Read the Pack Closet Requests emails (there will be a minimum of 1 a month but no more than 1 a week).
    3. Respond in whatever way you can.
      1. Emails may include:
        1. Specific needs a student has requested that aren't currently covered by donations - such as misses size 10 jeans or a pair of size 12 men's sneakers. You may have the exact like-new item in your home that isn't needed or maybe you can donate a $25 Wal-mart gift card for the purchase or can forward to friends who may be able to fulfill the specific need.
        2. Volunteer opportunities such as facilitating donation days, assisting with laundry days, or sorting cleaned items.
