ThunderWolf Rec Summer Camp

placeholder

Welcome Campers!

Regrettably, due to several factors, we will not be hosting Rec Summer Camp again this year. We are extremely disappointed but there are many other great opportunities within Pueblo and we are certain next summer we will be back up and running.
Other Pueblo Resources:

Campers are invited to enjoy a variety of sports and adventure activities with an emphasis on fun, learning, and participation! Campers in elementary school will participate in activities such as basketball, crafts, climbing, swimming, biking, ropes course, and much more, based on CSU-Pueblo’s beautiful campus.

Campers in middle school will participate in similar activities as the elementary campers, in addition to leadership development and field trips to include Cave of the Winds, Pueblo Mountain Park, Royal Gorge, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, El Pueblo History Museum, and the Pueblo Aircraft Museum.

For more information, or assistance getting signed up, please contact csup_studentrecreation@csupueblo.edu.

Frequently Asked Questions

  •

Do you offer scholarships to your camps?

We are currently building our scholarship fund! If you know of a donor who would be interested in helping to build our fund, please have them contact csup_studentrecreation@csupueblo.edu.

What does your camp offer that other camps don't?

Our camp is the best summer camp in Pueblo! We focus on the mental, social, and physical well-being of each camper by providing activities that engage campers minds as well as their bodies. We are the only camp in Pueblo that offers campers biking and use of our state of the art facilities. Further, all of our camp staff graduate from a rigorous recruitment, selection, training, and background check process to ensure that your camper is safe at all times!

What does a typical day look like at your summer camp?

Each day begins with a check in period between 7:30am and 8:50am. Campers may arrive any time between this window! During this time, campers have free play options that include playing in our gym (think like recess), or, if they prefer a less active environment, they can hang out in our classroom to do arts and crafts, or play games like chess/checkers, or spoons! At 9am, we meet as a group to go over what the day will entail for each group, and we divide our campers into their assigned groups. After our morning meeting, campers will play several activities, then at 10:15am we take a break for a snack. After snack time, we're back at it with games and fun until our lunch break, which occurs from 12pm-1pm. After lunch, more games until our afternoon snack, at 4pm. After snack, it's free play until 5:30pm!

What are the procedures for check in and check out?

Check in is a time period between 7:30am and 8:50am for the morning session, and 12-12:50 for the afternoon session. We ask that every effort is made to arrive within this window. Campers will not be permitted to check in early. We also require that campers parents/guardians check campers in, as drop off is not an option. If a camper arrives late, we will do our best to accommodate them!

Check out formally begins at 12pm, and ends at 12:50pm for those only enrolled in the morning session, and 4:30-5:30pm for those enrolled full day and half day afternoon sessions. Parents/guardians may check their camper out at any time, but these are the formal check out times!

All campers must be picked up by the end of these windows. Due to abuse of these windows during previous summers, a strike system is in effect, as follows.

Campers who are not picked up by their designated pick up person by 12:51pm for morning only sessions, or 5:31pm for pm or all day sessions, will receive a strike. 3 strikes may result in the camper being removed from all sessions registered for the summer, and no refunds will be provided.

Further, there are two options for check out:

    • Camper must be signed out by a designated person- Only those listed during registration may check out a camper, and they MUST provide a government issued ID each time they check out a camper!
    • Camper my leave on their own at check out time.- At 12:30pm for morning session only, or 4:30pm for afternoon or full day, campers may sign themselves out of camp and may depart on their own without a parent/guardian.

What does my camper need to bring each day?

Other than a great attitude, your camper will need a few things each day to have a great time at Summer Camp.

Daily things to bring: Each day, be sure to send them with a healthy morning snack, a healthy lunch, and a healthy afternoon snack. Also be sure that they have a water bottle that they can use throughout the day. Campers will have access to a microwave, but not a refrigerator. We recommend that campers are sent with a good amount of food each day as they will be burning many calories.

Clothing: Campers should wear active clothing that fits them well. Be sure they wear closed-toe, non-marking, athletic shoes. Campers may not wear Chaco-style shoes, flip flops, slides, or slippers other than during water activities.

Things to bring on specific days: On Monday, Wednesday and Friday, make sure to send your camper with their swimsuits and towels, as we will be swimming in the afternoons. If your camper needs a life vest, be sure to send it with them as well. Also on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays, be sure that you send them with their bikes and helmets, as we will be biking! We will have a trailer that is locked each night if you wish to store your camper's bike while they are at camp.

  •

What do we do if my camper gets sick or cannot make it to camp? Do we lose out on those days?

We get it. Campers get sick. Campers become tired. Families need family time. We want to serve you in any way we can. If things come up, just let us know, and we will do our best to work with you.
  •

    What is your refund policy?

If a camper is unable to attend camp and reasonably appropriate communication is made in advance to the Camp Director (csup_studentrecreation@csupueblo.edu), un-used days may be moved to another session, or another season. However, if reasonably appropriate communication is made, days will not be moved or refunded. Also, if a camper is sent home due to a behavioral reason, sessions paid for may not be eligible to be refunded.
