Weather Closures
Rec Center & Pool adhere to all Campus Closures & Delays.
Example: Campus “delay” for 2 hours mean campus opens at 10am therefore so will the Rec Center & Pool.
Lightening & Other Inclement Weather
The National Weather Service, National Lightning Safety Institute, National Athletic Trainers’ Association, US Swimming, Inc. and the American College of Emergency Physicians all recommend evacuation of indoor pools when the threat of lightning exists.
FOR THE SAFETY OF EVERYONE….When lightning is visible, we will err on the side of caution and clear the pool until the threat is no longer apparent. Our lifeguards will use their discretion and make the best decision regarding pool activity during storms - with intentions based on public safety.
In compliance with safety guidelines:
- Pool managers should monitor the threat of lightning at all times.
- When lightning is within 6 miles, lifeguards will:
- Evacuate all users out of the pool to safe areas.
- Pool Locker Rooms are NOT safe areas.
- LIFEGUARDS WILL DETERMINE when activities should be resumed.
- Activities may be resumed 30 minutes after the last observed lightning or thunder.
