Windows 10 Support Ending October 2025

Microsoft has officially announced the discontinuation of support for Windows 10, effective October 14, 2025. After this date, Windows 10 will no longer receive security updates, patches, or technical support from Microsoft. For more details, you can visit Microsoft's official announcement.

Please see the important information below to ensure your devices remain secure and compliant with university standards.

What This Means:

  • End of Updates: After October 14, 2025, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates or patches for Windows 10.
  • Increased Security Risks: Devices running Windows 10 past the support deadline will be more vulnerable to cyber threats, malware, and other security risks.
  • Non-Compliant Devices: Devices running unsupported operating systems will not meet the university’s cybersecurity compliance standards, which could affect access to university systems.

Action Required:

  • Upgrade to Windows 11: All Windows 10 users should to upgrade to Windows 11 before the support deadline. Windows 11 offers enhanced security features and ongoing support from Microsoft.
  • Review Your Devices: Please assess all devices in your area to determine if they are running Windows 10. If so, plan for their upgrade or replacement as soon as possible.
  • Contact IT Support: If you need assistance upgrading to Windows 11 or determining if your device can support Windows 11, please contact the campus IT Help Desk.

Compensating Controls for Non-Upgraded Devices: If upgrading your Windows 10 device before the deadline is not feasible, consider implementing the following compensating controls to mitigate security risks:

  • Firewall Protection: Ensure Windows 10 devices are placed behind a properly configured firewall to limit exposure to external threats.
  • Network Segmentation: Isolate legacy Windows 10 devices on a separate network to reduce the risk of cross-contamination from security breaches.
  • Access Controls: Limit access to sensitive data and systems for devices running unsupported operating systems.
