Colorado State University Pueblo hosts Scholarship and Research Day on Nov. 9

PUEBLO, COLORADO – Colorado State University Pueblo faculty and students will join together to present their research and scholarship to the campus community on Thursday, November 9. The Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Research Symposium will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Occhiato Student Center; over 40 research posters, spanning every area of the STEM college, will be on display. Faculty will present their scholarly research in the LINC, located in the university library, from 4 - 6 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public.

“This symposium started 18 years ago and has provided a showcase for student work in a myriad of different areas from biology and engineering to chemistry and wildlife and everything in between,” Dean of the College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, Dr. David Lehmpuhl, said. “The long hours in the lab or the field or behind the computer have produced a wonderful array of exciting research that our students are proud to explain, no matter your experience or area of expertise. Our students are passionate about their work, and I hope attendees will get a chance to ask some tough questions and provide some useful feedback.”

The day features sessions for faculty hosted by the Library and Office of the Provost in the morning, followed by a scholars reception at 4:00 p.m. in the LINC with a brief presentation from the Spring 2023 Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activity award winner, Dr. Heidi Reynolds-Stenson. Reynolds-Stenson will provide a brief program to discuss her research in social work.

Research and scholarship conducted at CSU Pueblo advances our understanding of the world and inspires the next generation of thinkers and innovators,” Provost and Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Gail Mackin, noted. “Our faculty and students, through their dedicated research, not only contribute to the advancement of their respective fields, but also enhance the overall educational experience for our entire community.”

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics research bridges traditional disciplines and attendees will be able to see a wide variety of research involving many departments and programs at CSU Pueblo. Supporting student research helps prepare students for the rigor and success in graduate programs, professional programs like medicine, pharmacy or veterinary schools, and for careers in the biological and physical sciences, engineering, and mathematics.
