Dear Campus Community,

This past week, the U.S. Supreme Court made a final ruling on two affirmative action cases regarding the use of race in admissions policies at institutions of higher education. In this decision, the Supreme Court banned the consideration of race as a factor in university admissions.

Like other institutions of higher education, CSU Pueblo will review admissions processes with legal counsel to ensure we are in compliance with the Supreme Court’s decision. Nevertheless, we are also aware that this week’s ruling has more of an impact on schools with highly selective processes – institutions that only admit a small number of applicants. At CSU Pueblo, we are dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and we eagerly admit all qualified students to our academic programs, and we’ll continue to do so.

While it’s true that many universities consider their campuses to be “exclusive,” and believe there is prestige in how few students they accept, CSU Pueblo takes great pride in our high acceptance rates. Rather than boasting how many students we keep out, we boast about the number of students we let in. At CSU Pueblo, we provide opportunities for all interested students, and we are proud that our students take those opportunities, and they excel. To those of us who work at CSU Pueblo, we consider access and affordability, and our unique and diverse student populations, the real benchmark of prestige.

No matter how the tides of legal interpretation change, if you are motivated to earn a college degree, CSU Pueblo wants to provide you an opportunity.

CSU Pueblo is the people’s university for the State of Colorado, and you belong here. Join us.
