Dr. George Dallam Named as the Third Annual Recipient of the Distinguished University Professor Award

Pueblo - Colorado State University Pueblo is proud to honor Dr. George Dallam as the third Distinguished University Professor for 2022, with a reception and formal award ceremony on November 10. The reception and ceremony will take place in the Occhiato Student Center Foyer, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Dr. Dallam will provide a brief presentation on his research, entitled, “The Nasal Breathing Paradox During Exercise.” The research examines, and questions, the existing and generally accepted theory that oral breathing during heavy exercise is essential and improves oxygenation and performance. Additionally, the study addresses the negative effects on our health which result from breathing orally during exercise and how breathing nasally can improve overall health and performance.

While Dallam is honored to be recognized as this year’s recipient, he emphasized that his contributions to education are a triumph for all CSU Pueblo campus community members. “Each person, from maintenance staff to university president, plays an important role in the process we call education and should feel proud of being a part of what we accomplish together,” explained Dallam.

The selection process included letters of support for Dallam’s nomination. One colleague remarked, “Dr. Dallam is serving, and has served, the university and his profession with expertise, professionalism, and a commitment to students, other faculty, and the university vision… His research in exercise science over the years is groundbreaking and progressive in the field and his experience lends itself to the concept of lifelong learning.”

The Distinguished University Professor is the highest honor bestowed on CSU Pueblo faculty. This title is reserved for tenured CSU Pueblo faculty, who are actively teaching and have demonstrated sustained exceptional performance and accomplishments in the areas of teaching and research, scholarship, or creative activity.
