CSU Pueblo and CSU to Host Webinar on COVID-19 Vaccine Research

Colorado State University Pueblo and Colorado State University Fort Collins will cohost a webinar featuring Mary Marovich, MD, director of the Vaccine Research Program for the Division of AIDS at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). Marovich will talk about COVID-19 vaccine research. The webinar, titled Vaccines in the Developmental Pipeline and NIAID Strategies, will be held Wednesday, Sep. 23 from 12 to 1 p.m.

Marovich recently joined NIAID's Division of AIDS and leads the development and coordination of clinical and preclinical research on HIV vaccines. Prior to joining NIH, Marovich was with the U.S. Military HIV Research Program, where she served as chief of vaccine research and development since 2005. In that position, she led, directed and developed a global HIV vaccine research program.

Marovich earned a bachelor's degrees in biochemisty and chemistry at Illinois State University and a medical degree at Loyola University of Chicago-Maywood. In 1993, she completed a residency in internal medicine and clinical infectious disease training at the University of Colorado and earned a diploma in tropical medicine and hygiene from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. Marovich worked in NIAID's Laboratory of Parasitic Diseases as a clinical fellow from 1995-1998 and as a clinical associate from 1998-99 while she completed her infectious disease fellowship.

An associate professor of medicine with the Uniformed Services University's Department of Medicine, Marovich has won several honors for academic and teaching excellence. Additionally, she serves on a number of technical panels and as a scientific journal reviewer. She is a member of the American Association of Immunology, the American Society of Tropical Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.

The webinar will include brief introductions by President of CSU Pueblo, Timothy Mottet and Chad Kinney, director of the Institute of Cannabis Research, followed by a 30 minute keynote by Marovich and a 10 minute moderated question and answer session.
