Colorado State University Pueblo Honors Mohalla with Threlkeld Prize for Excellence as Top Senior

PUEBLO – Colorado State University Pueblo has named Morgan Mohalla as the 2020 recipient of the Threlkeld Prize for Excellence. The six finalists were selected from a pool of candidates compiled from nominations by CSU Pueblo faculty and staff from various University departments.

Mohalla was notified by CSU Pueblo president, Dr. Timothy Mottet, by phone that he was the winner of the Threlkeld Prize for Excellence.

Named for the late Budge Threlkeld, a former administrator and professor, the award is presented to a graduating senior who demonstrates excellence in academic and co-curricular activities as well as in service to the University and to the community.

The Threlkeld winner will receive a stipend as well as the first diploma during the Commencement Ceremonies in December.

Morgan Ayman Mohalla, Colorado Springs, CO, will graduate summa cum laude (3.98 GPA) with a bachelor of science in biology (biomedical science). During his tenure at CSU Pueblo, Morgan helped reestablished the Medical Science Society Club and served as its president, and was a research assistant for the Institute of Cannabis Research setting up a fruit fly testing lab for cannibidiol (CBD). Morgan is a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served as a senior combat medic.

The five other finalists for the Threlkeld Prize for Excellence included:

Christopher Robert Colvin, Albuquerque, NM, graduated in December 2019 summa cum laude (3.96 GPA) with a bachelor of science in computer information systems with an emphasis in cyber security.

Christopher is currently pursuing his master of science in information assurance at University of New Mexico. While at CSU Pueblo, he served as a computer lab assistant, president of the Association of Computing Machinery and participated in the National Cyber League ranking 237 of 5,233 participants.

Kelsey Marie Laughlin, Pueblo, CO, will graduate summa cum laude (3.99 GPA) with a bachelor of science in nursing and a minor in exercise science and health promotion.

During her tenure at CSU Pueblo, Kelsey was a Daniels Fund scholar, a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and the Southern Colorado Association of Nursing Students, and served as a nursing intern at Bechtel Corporation where she received the Bechtel LeadeR+ Global Recognition Award.

Kelsey volunteered for Shandy Clinic, was the coordinator for the 9 News Health Fair and received the President Barack Obama Volunteer Service Award.

Christine Marie Nufer, Pueblo, CO, will graduate summa cum laude (3.93 GPA) with a bachelor of science in music performance with a minor in piano pedagogy.

Christine is a member of the Colorado State Music Teachers Association, Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and a founding member of CSU Pueblo’s chapter of Music Teachers National Association.

Christine is a two time recipient of the CSU Pueblo Student Leadership through Service Award and the Presidential Scholar Merit Award since 2016.

Kyle Jacob Rosenbrock, Brush, CO, will graduate summa cum laude (3.95) with both a bachelor of science in mechatronics engineering and a master of science in industrial and systems engineering.

Kyle was a College Sports Information Directors of America All-District and All American athlete, an RMAC All-Academic First Team Defense and received a Colorado Engineering Council Letter of Recognition. Kyle works as a manufacturing engineer intern at Collins Aerospace.

Haoping Tang, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, will graduate summa cum laude (4.0 GPA) with a bachelor of science in economics with an emphasis in finance and a minor in honors. During his tenure at CSU Pueblo he was a resident assistant, an accounting tutor, played football for the Pack and was a member of Rotoract Service Club of Pueblo of Pueblo. Haoping was also a member of the Associated Students’ Government.
