Partners in Education hosts Pueblo Youth Future Fair May 9 at CSU-Pueblo
PUEBLO - More than 400 high school students from Pueblo city and county schools will explore career options and learn from business professionals and potential employers as part of the Pueblo Youth Future Fair on Wednesday, May 9 at Colorado State University-Pueblo.
Your Adventure Awaits! is the theme of this year’s event produced by the Pueblo Partners In Education (PIE). CSU-Pueblo President Timothy Mottet will welcome students and introduce the Youth Alive motivational group, beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Occhiato Student Center Ballroom.
Students will attend sessions in the newly remodeled Occhiato Student Center to talk with representatives of the two career fields the students have chosen to explore that day. In these sessions, students will hear what personal characteristics are necessary for success in a career field and what academic and technical skills are required to enter and remain productive in those careers. The need for ongoing education in every career field will be part of each presenter’s message as well as reminders that students can take concurrent enrollment courses through CSU-Pueblo and Pueblo Community College (PCC) while they are in high school.
A lunchtime session, “Discover the Adventurer Within You and The Adventurers Around You!” will challenge students to prepare for and remain focused on the goals they set for themselves. Students also be guided through an exercise to identify people in their lives who will support their goals and help them take positive steps toward achieving them. A second lunchtime session titled, “PoWeR Up Your Adventure!” will connect the ICAP that students are creating while in school to the messages about the value of Post-secondary education and Workforce Readiness they’ve heard from employers throughout the day.
This PIE event is made possible by representatives from Pueblo City Schools, Pueblo District 70, PCC, CSU-Pueblo, IntelliTec College of Pueblo, Parkview Medical Center, The Imprinted Sportswear Shop, The Spirit Store, Junior Achievement of Pueblo, Youth Alive, and the Pueblo Centennial High Alumni Foundation.
