Colorado State University–Pueblo LEAF organization celebrates April as “Bloom Month”

PUEBLO – Colorado State University-Pueblo’s student organization Leaders in Ethical Action for the Future (LEAF) will host “Bloom Month” in April to celebrate empowering the planet and providing people with a greater knowledge and understanding about social justice and environmental issues. The month kicks off with trail building, includes an Earth Day Fest, and ends with a Watershed Cleanup.

According to Earthday.org, Earth Day activities globally involve more than 1 billion people in 192 countries in the largest civic-focused day of action in the world. It is a day of political action and civic participation. Earth Day 2018 will focus specifically on ending plastic pollution around the world.

Earth Day Fest on Friday, April 20 serves as the headlining event of the month, with a celebration of the global holiday with free pizza, brownies, and live performances from Mighty Mystic, Beyond Bridges, and surprise guests. The festival will occur from 1 – 6 p.m. at the Fountain Plaza or near Belmont Hall if inclement weather occurs. Food will be served at 1:30 p.m. with music to follow at 2 p.m.

On April 21, students and community members will hike to Browns Canyon with state congressmen and other political leaders to discuss public land rights in Colorado, including the Bears Ears and Grand Staircase Escalante national monuments in Utah.

The club will host an additional six events on and off campus, with the schedule as follows:
April 7: Trail Building at Beulah Mountain Park (Pickup in front of Greenhorn Hall, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., free lunch included)
April 11: Colorado Public Lands: Panel Discussion (GCB 111, 6-7 p.m.)

“The importance of celebrating these events is to drop seeds and spread the roots of knowledge to people,” said LEAF President Tatiana Finley. “Constant and consistent exposure to renewable energies and Earth-friendly ideas help students see why they should care about Earth Day and being environmentally conscious.”
