Colorado State University-Pueblo announces winners of 2017 Juried Student Art Show
PUEBLO - Colorado State University-Pueblo recently announced the winners of the 2017 annual Juried Student Art Show.
Thirty-six students participated in the event which featured artwork in categories of ceramics, sculpture, photography, oil paint, pencil and pastels, mixed media, pencil, and acrylic. The winners were selected for Best of Show, first, second, and third place, first and second Honorable Mention, People’s Choice, and the President’s Purchase Award. Daisy McGowan, director of the Gallery of Contemporary Art at University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, served as juror for the exhibition.
Winners of the show are listed below.
- Best of Show (Dean’s Award) – 140, Ceramic, Alex Degler, senior art major from Elizabeth
- First Place – Surrender to the Perverse Impetus, oil painting, Jennifer Derge, senior art major from Colorado Springs
- Second Place – The Litter Man, photography, Mariah Algein, senior K-12 art education major from Pueblo
- Third Place – Pretty Boy, photography, Fernando Alfaro, junior art major from Fountain
- Honorable Mention – Flowing, sculpture, Joyce Pretzer, senior art major from Canon City
- Honorable Mention – I’m in Control, installation, Sam Ingo, senior art major from Pueblo
- People’s Choice – photo, Mariah Algein, senior K-12 art education major from Pueblo
- President’s Purchase Award – Good Times, photo, Joy Davis, junior art major from Yoder
The art show is sponsored by the CSU-Pueblo Art Club and is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday through December 1 in the University’s Fine Arts Gallery.
