Press Release

PUEBLO - In partnership with Comcast, the C-SPAN 2016 Cities Tour will be in Pueblo, July 10-15, with outreach sessions scheduled for students and educators at Colorado State University-Pueblo.

C-SPAN's 2016 Cities Tour takes Book TV and American History TV (AHTV) programming on the road to selected cities to feature the history and literary life of these communities. They choose cities that are rich with history and have interesting local literary communities, but not often featured on the national scene. The programming recorded in Pueblo will air the weekend of October 1-2. The history segments will air on C-SPAN3 American History TV (AHTV) and the literary events/non-fiction author segments will air on C-SPAN2 BookTV. In addition, the segments that air will be available to view online indefinitely. Each city will have its own designated link/page on the C-SPAN website and social media outlets (Twitter @CSPANcities, YouTube, Flickr) will be used to let C-SPAN, BookTV and AHTV followers know where the crew is during and after the visit.

In addition to gathering programming, C-SPAN conducts educational presentations to interested audiences about the C-SPAN Networks, free video resources available, and the role of a C-SPAN Video Journalist to media-based curriculum.

The C-SPAN crew will be on the CSU-Pueblo campus for two events. A brown bag lunch for educators sponsored by the Center for Teaching at Learning will begin at noon on Tuesday, July 12, in Library and Academic Resources Center 109. At the educators' session, drinks and dessert will be provided. This session is open to the public with no reservations required.

A student session in conjunction with the MAESTRO program will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 14 in the General Classroom Building 111. The main audience for the student program will be the more than 40 students participating in the MAESTRO Summer program from July 14-August 13 in a unique, hands-on curriculum and exploring the Southwest during day-long Saturday excursions. Other interested students and staff are welcome to attend.

Topics of these sessions will include:

  • How to navigate C-SPAN's Video Library, a programming archive that includes 200,000 hours of programming dating from 1987, and how to utilize the Video Library to generate clips
  • Using C-SPAN Classroom in their future careers as social studies and government teachers
  • Learning ways to follow Washington Your Way using social media outlets including Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Foursquare, and the apps for iPhone and iPad
  • Tips and techniques in video production; careers in video production; the role of a C-SPAN Video Journalist
  • Insight into the professional side of working for a national television network
  • Why C-SPAN is in your community
