Press Release

PUEBLO - The Colorado State University-Pueblo Forensics Team will host six schools from across the country at the second annual Rocky Mountain Cooperative (RMC), a parliamentary debate camp for college student's, June 25-July 1.

The debate cooperative provides a unique opportunity for students to receive an affordable debate education in a collaborative, encouraging environment. During the RMC, students will learn the structure of the activity, master the ins and outs of effective research, and ascertain an in-depth understanding of topics like hegemony, international relations, South American politics, and the U.S. elections process. Students will learn from some of the best coaches in the country as their skills are developed and put to the test in a camp tournament at the conclusion of the week. This year's coaches hail from Colorado College, Concordia University-Irvine, San Diego State University, Southern Illinois University, University of Texas at Tyler, University of Utah, and Missouri Western University.

Parliamentary debate is a two-on-two extemporaneous debate event that discusses topics ranging from domestic politics to international affairs, aimed at persuading a judge that their side of the debate is correct. Debates typically revolve around advocacies embedded in a web of facts and values in a highly-competitive environment.

"I am excited about this year's RMC. We have an incredible coaching staff volunteering a week of their time to truly invest in an activity we all adore," said CSU-Pueblo Director of Forensics Kathryn Starkey. "Our team is grateful and fortunate to be able to host the co-op on our campus to build our program and others from institutions across the country."

The CSU-Pueblo team will host its first high school debate camp in more than two decades, the ThunderWolves Forensics Institute, scheduled July 25-29, 2016.'
