CSU-Pueblo offers music camp for students ages 10-18

PUEBLO - Students ages 10-18 will have a unique opportunity this summer to participate in a strings and piano music camp at Colorado State University-Pueblo that will include daily performances and physical/outdoor activities. The Southern Colorado Adventure Music Camp will be held from July 11-15, 2016 through the University's Department of Music and Outdoor Pursuits program. The camp will culminate in a Hoag Recital Hall concert at 5 p.m., on Friday, July 15.

Student musicians who play the piano or a string instrument will be placed in string orchestra, piano ensemble, and/or chamber music groups and work with diverse faculty who are dedicated to excellence both in education and performance. Students must submit their application with a signature from their school music teacher or private instructor as a basis for recommendation.

The daily schedule will be as follows:

9-10 a.m. Rhythm and Movement/Theory
10:10-11:50 Lessons/Scales/Sight reading
12-12:30 p.m. Performance Class
12:30-1:10 Lunch (bring lunch)
1:10-2 p.m. Orchestra/Piano Ensemble/Chamber group practice
2:10-3 p.m. Chamber Group Coaching/Individual Practice time
3-5 p.m. Recreation with Outdoor Pursuits (water sports, nature walks, challenge course, climbing wall, swimming, etc.). Transportation provided.

Camp faculty will include: Timothy Hsu (violin/viola chamber music, orchestra), artist-in-residence; Norah Clydesdale (cello, chamber music); Dr. Zahari Metchkov (piano, chamber music), associate professor of music; Dr. David Volk (theory), chair, department of music; Elizabeth Zawadowski (NCMT, piano, piano ensemble); Sarah Hassan (rhythm and movement, sight reading), and Katie Couch (certified Dalcroze Eurhythmics instructor).

Tuition for those who register by May 1 is $175 per student. After May 1, the price will increase to $200.
