Press Release

PUEBLO - Colorado State University-Pueblo seeks to equip the nation with professionals to replace a retiring workforce and take advantage of a growth industry with its first online degree program. Beginning in Spring 2016, the first online degree completion program offered by CSU-Pueblo Online will be a bachelor's degree in Construction Management.

The Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management combines skill sets obtained through course work in Civil Engineering Technology and business combined with construction management courses to prepare students for the fast- paced construction industry. The program provides students with industry current and relevant skills necessary to manage construction- related projects. The program composition enables the student to work in heavy-civil infrastructure or commercial-residential-industrial projects. The online model offers students the opportunity to retool or work on career advancement without having to return back to the campus environment.

According to program chair Michael Mincic, the construction industry ranks near the top of workforces facing significant retirements in the coming years along with continued expansion in the industry. The Colorado Contractors Association reports that 20 percent of the construction workforce will retire in the next two to four years. The Brooking Institute reports that "commercial development in the next quarter-century will eclipse anything seen in previous generation" and Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has doubled construction spending during the last year.

Courses will be offered in eight-week modules, requiring full-time students to take about half the credits each term as a traditional college student. The online degree is flexible and convenient by design, allowing you to earn your degree at your own pace, on your own terms. With CSU-Pueblo Online, students can take classes without fixed schedules, available to you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, anywhere that you have internet access. The course offerings will vary with the individual sessions. Sixteen students already are enrolled in one of four online courses that began on Monday, Jan. 4: CM101, Intro to Construction Management, CET207, Construction Materials & Methods; CET303, Construction Management, and CET304, Building Cost Estimating.

CSU-Pueblo Online offers one tuition rate, regardless of your location, which is locked in for the entire sequence of courses taken for a degree provided the student is making adequate academic progress. Undergraduate tuition rates are $350 per credit hour, or $1050 for a three-credit course. Tuition discounts are available for those military service members who qualify.
