Press Release
PUEBLO – Twelve CSU System students (Colorado State University and Colorado State University-Pueblo) have the opportunity to spend a month at Harlaxton College in England and earn six hours of credit for two marketing courses in the Hasan School of Business (HSB).
HSB Professor Dr. Ian Brennen will lead two weeks of online course work beginning May 2 (prior to departure for England on May 13) followed by four weeks of face-to-face instruction at Harlaxton College in England. The return date is June 11.
The fee for the Harlaxton program fee is $3079, which includes full room and board (28 nights accommodation at Harlaxton College and three meals each day), an eight-day BritRail Flexipass (for train travel within England, Scotland and Wales), coach transportation to and from London Heathrow airport to Harlaxton College, shuttle service from Harlaxton College to the local town (Grantham), and course field trips featuring speakers on advertising and promotion strategy at The London Museum, The BBC, and the National Trust. The program fee does not include the group flight (estimated at $1200) and CSU-Pueblo tuition for enrollment in MKTG342 and MKTG 348 ($768 per course).
Harlaxton College resides within Harlaxton Manor—a 19th Century Grade 1 listed building located about five minutes from the town of Grantham. Harlaxton has been featured in a number of movies--The Haunting (1999), starring Catherine Zeta-Jones and Liam Neeson; The Lady and the Highwayman (1989), starring Oliver Reed and Emma Sams; The Last Days of Patton (1986), starring George C. Scott; and The Ruling Class (1972) starring Peter O’Toole.
In the 1960s, Harlaxton was the British study abroad facility of Stanford University. It was purchased by the University of Evansville in 1971 and has hosted the University of Evansville’s study abroad program for more than 40 years. In 2014, the Harlaxton College study abroad program was ranked #1 in the world by bestcollegereviews.com.
CSU System students will have the option of using their BritRail pass to join University of Evansville students on their weekend travels. In 2016, weekend trips will include London, Edinburgh, Cambridge, and York. London is one hour by train from Grantham. Trains run almost every hour from Grantham to and from London, and so summer students often leave Harlaxton after class to spend the afternoon/evening in London.
A video introduction to Harlaxton College, details about Harlaxton Manor’s history, blogs of current and former Harlaxton students, and interior views of Harlaxton Manor can be found at https://www.harlaxton.ac.uk/
Two information sessions for interested CSU-Pueblo students will be held in the HSB Conference Room (second floor) at 10:30am on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 and 11:30am on Monday, January 25, 2016. Contact HSB advisors Kristyn White Davis (719 549-2155) or Gene Lucero (719 549-2175) for more information. A commitment to enroll via a down payment of $750 must be made by February 1, 2016.
