PUEBLO - The CSU-Pueblo Noyce Scholars Program will offer an eight-day Summer Math Academy from 1-3 p.m. on June 15 - 18 and June 22 - 25. This student-oriented program will focus on geometric problem solving and reasoning.

The Academy is open to students entering grades 7 - 10 in Pueblo County and surrounding areas. Interested students who are struggling with mathematics, those who are in need of some extra challenge, as well as those "in the middle" can all benefit from the program.

Academy instruction will be highly individualized, with university and college students participating in a concurrent Summer Internship Program working with groups of students under the mentorship of master secondary mathematics teachers and CSU-Pueblo mathematics faculty. Daily work will include both individual and small group activities. All students will also complete individual pre- and post-tests to determine how much was learned.

The Academy is free to participating students, but registration is required. Registration forms are available at http://csm.csupueblo.edu/RobertNoyce and must be returned no later than June 3. Parents will be sent confirmation letters during the first week of June.

The Math Academy is sponsored by the CSU-Pueblo Noyce Scholars Program, a collaborative venture of the Mathematics Department and the Teacher Education Program funded by the National Science Foundation (Grant Number DUE 1136426). Partners in the grant include Pueblo City Schools, Pueblo School District 70, Lamar Community College, Pikes Peak Community College, Pueblo Community College and Trinidad State Junior College.
