CSU-Pueblo’s REV 89 earns 2014 Signature Station Award

PUEBLO – The student-operated radio station at Colorado State University-Pueblo, KTSC-FM, REV 89, has received The Broadcast Education Association's (BEA) National Signature Station Award for 2014. This is the highest radio honor given by the BEA and represents a zenith in the ongoing effort by the Mass Communication Department and Center for New Media (MCCNM) to provide a world class broadcasting experience for the department's radio students.
"We are honored to be recognized as BEA's 2014 Signature Station,” said Station Media Manager Jenna Mangino. “I'm proud of the students we have on staff and grateful for the support we have received from President Di Mare, faculty adviser Sam Lovato, as well as the entire MCCNM department."
The Broadcast Education Association is the professional association for professors, industry professionals and students who are interested in teaching and research related to electronic media and multimedia enterprises.
The Signature Station Competition invites submissions of superior protocol and practices at student-run, faculty-advised college radio and television stations. The main mission is to identify and impart areas of excellence in the hands-on facilitation of station functions such as philosophical engagement, community involvement, programming arrangement, branding/logo development, student management, volunteer recruitment, and broadcast equipment. Through the Signature Station Competition, the BEA recognizes and rewards remarkable advisors, students, and stations at BEA’s annual convention held in Las Vegas, NV.
Out of 471 college radio stations in the United States, KTSC-FM REV 89 was chosen as being superior in content, creativity, and execution. The panel of judges included academic and radio industry experts who critiqued the station in several categories, including audio production, announcing, music programming, station policy, web presence and social media.
The Federal Communications Commission-licensed station boasts more than four decades of continuous operation, beginning Oct. 12, 1970. The radio station is part of the electronic media curriculum in the mass communications department and is staffed by students majoring or minoring in the department. CSU-Pueblo is the only University in the state that offers on-campus, hands-on experiences at public television and public radio stations as well as with print and on-line publications.
