Press Release

PUEBLO – More than 30 local, regional, state, and national school districts will be seeking educators as part of Colorado State University-Pueblo’s annual Teacher Education Fair on Thursday, April 10.

According to Michelle Gjerde, director of the Career Center and coordinator of the fair, candidates must be teacher qualified to participate in the fair, which will run from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. in the Occhiato University Center.

“Candidates seeking full-time teaching positions should be professionally dressed, bring plenty of copies of their updated resumes, and be prepared to interview,” Gjerde said.

The schedule for the Education Fair format is as follows:

  • 9 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. - Open Networking and Sign-Ups for interviews with school districts
  • 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.  - Interviews throughout the remainder of the day
(Some candidates may have one interview others may have 12 based on the individual and availability of recruiters.)

The American Association for Employment in Education (AAEE) has noted that considerable shortages exist in mathematics, bilingual education, and special education.  The hot teaching concentrations most districts are seeking at this fair are: Foreign Language, Special Education, Math, Science, ESL, Music, and English.  Gjerde said that successful teaching candidates will possess excellent communication skills and teaching abilities in this competitive job market.

Current student teachers, alumni, and members of the Pueblo community are welcome to attend this free event.  No pre-registration is required.  For more information about the Education Fair, contact the CSU-Pueblo Career Center at 719.549.2980.
