Press Release

PUEBLO – The Colorado International Student Association (CISA) and the Brew Club at Colorado State University-Pueblo will sponsor a celebration of Holi, a Hindu festival of Spring, from 3-6 p.m. on Friday, March 14 at the Hasan Outdoor Amphitheater on the west side of campus.
Holi is celebrated in South Asia, particularly India and Nepal and other countries with significant people of Hindu origin, and signifies the victory of good over evil and the arrival of spring. More information on the origin of the festival may be found at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holi

According to Nishesh Singh, president of the CISA, festivities  are fun way to introduce people to cultures from around the world. “This will be a celebration of the arrival of Spring as it is celebrated in the Indian Subcontinent,” Singh said. “We will add color to life with paint, music, and dance.”

Traditionally, the night before Holi, a bonfire occurs at which people sing and dance. The following day brings a riot of colors with people chasing and coloring friends, family, and even strangers with dry color and colored waters in water guns or balloons or tubs.
Live music will be provided by Dj Aragona, and the Brew Club will provide fruit infused waters. The event is free and open to the public. CSU-Pueblo students will receive one packet of free color, with community members allowed to purchase packets for $2 each. The colors are of high quality and will wash off easily, but participants are encouraged to wear old white clothes and googles or glasses to protect their eyes.

For more information on the festival, contact Singh at cisa@csupueblo.edu or Center for International Programs at 719.549.2329.
