University Choirs and Vocal Ensembles
Concert Choir and Chamber Choir; Vocal Jazz Ensemble
The Concert Choir is open to all students throughout the University student body who have an interest in singing in a vocal ensemble that studies and performs a wide variety of choral music. An entrance audition is required only for the purpose of assigning voice parts; this audition is not a prerequisite to enrollment.
The Chamber Choir is a select ensemble and membership is earned by vocal auditions from primarily voice majors. Other music majors and members of the student body at large may audition for openings in the ensemble as they occur. This ensemble is a performance-oriented group with special emphasis on a cappella literature including secular and sacred repertoire. Extra rehearsals are scheduled as needed for preparation.
The Vocal Jazz Ensemble maintains a membership of 6-12 students who are experienced in jazz, popular, and other contemporary styles of music. Primarily student-centered with regards to selection of repertoire and development of individual voice parts, this ensemble works closely with the University Jazz Ensembles to plan, rehearse, and perform, and frequently travels to schools and other venues to represent the Music Department and University. Extra rehearsals are scheduled as needed for preparation.
